Project64 (N64)

Project64 is one of the oldest Nintendo 64 emulators for the Windows platform. This free, open-source, plugin-based emulator does not require the use of a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). Instead, it allows third-party groups to use their plug-ins to emulate specific components. This software can fully support dumped cartridge console memories and ROM images.

PJ64 provides basic features including multiplayer support, an easy-to-use user interface, and save-states - allowing players to run the software out of the box. In addition, Project64 boasts several advanced features such as multiple aspect ratio support with no quality drop, high definition graphics, excellent compatibility, and even built-in cheat codes to dominate those unfairly hard games. It even has dozens of configuration options to further customize your gaming experience.

Project64 History

The project was initially an experiment by the developers Zilmar and Jabo back in 1998, but the community received the project well that it soon became the landscape for N64 emulation - and for many years, it was considered one of the best, most stable, and most compatible emulators for the Nintendo 64 gaming console until around 2011 when Jabo left its development and software became closed off to the public. 2 years later, the sole developer Zilmar updated the emulator and released the source code to the public. In its current state, Project64 is still in the leading role along with Mupen64Plus.
