Ares (SNES)

Ares is a multi-system emulator designed after the popular emulators Higan and Bsnes. Initially developed by Near and Luke Usher, this project began its development on October 14th, 2004, and is designed to focus on emulation accuracy and preservation. This open-source emulator supports more than two dozen video game consoles. As of December 2022, the compatible consoles are:

Although supported, some systems are still in their experimental stages and are not recommended for casual everyday use. Supporting the emulator by testing games and consoles is highly encouraged. We also recommend users to always use the latest version available.

Unlike other similar emulators, Ares is under the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) license. This means any forks or modifications of the project are not allowed to be published. This was to prevent splintering development between the emulators Higan and Ares. As with most emulators, this software does not have any included games and users are to provide their own legal copies of the games they wish to play.
