Bsnes (SNES)

Bsnes is one of the most accurate emulators of the classic gaming console Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom/ SNES). Originally created by a developer under the username Near (previously known as Byuu), this open-source emulator is a subset project of Higan and is focused on providing better performance, a wide array of convenient features, and ease of use.

The community of developers created a wide array of forks for Bsnes - each with its own specialization. Bsnes is also available as a Libretro core for the popular RetroArch emulator.

Popular Forks

Bsnes-HD - Also called HD Mode 7 Mod, is a fork that adds a plethora of HD features including widescreen patches, higher resolution, HD Mode 7, True Color, and even the ability to disable background layers, sprites, and window effects for better screenshots and recording. 

Bsnes-MT - Aims to improve the original emulator by adding dozens of features such as Pixel-perfect scaling, PNG screen­shots, built-in hotkeys, and better usability.

Bsnes-Mercury - Restores lost features (like HLE DSP chip emulation and SGB emulation) and provides improved performance. This fork is focused on accuracy and anything that reduces accuracy is optional and off by default. It also features a fancy user interface based on Libretro.

Bsnes-Classic - The resurrection of the classic Bsnes software. Fork of Bsnes v073. This fork is aimed to backport emulation improvements while keeping the features of the older version's Qt GUI.
