ZSNES is an open-source Super Nintendo Entertainment System / Super Famicom emulator written mostly in x86 assembly. This software runs on MS-DOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Windows computers.
The development of this project started on July 3, 1997, by zsKnight and _Demo_. After version 1.51, the development of the project slowed down to almost a halt - with most of the efforts concentrated on increasing the emulator's portability, as well as rewriting the assembly code.
ZSNES also has an unofficial port for macOS. This mac port has only been tested on Tiger 10.4.6 and can't use 8-point sound interpolation, but everything else works great. The official Windows version requires DirectX 8.0 to run, else there will be tons of missing DLL errors.
While the latest official version of this project was released in 2007, an updated master source file is made available by Xyproto, under the file name ZSNES 2. This new fork aims to solve some of the performance problems of the original project by adding a lot of heavy patches and tweaks to further optimize ZSNES to work on modern machines and platforms.
ZSNES Emulator download can be obtained free to play Super Nintendo. Available for multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, DOS and Source with fastest download speeds on EmulatorDownload.net. This SNES Emulator is in English and can run games online in high quality. ZSNES is developed by zsKnight, _Demo_, pagefault and Nach.
