Xenia is the first unofficial Xbox 360 emulator and among the leading 360 emulators in the market. Despite being highly experimental, this open-source project can play hundreds of games in high quality with high performance. Xenia is created for modern PCs with the codes and content covered under the BSD license.
The development of this ambitious emulator started in 2013 as a side project by the original developer Ben Vanik. Xenia was the first emulator to ever manage to successfully run an Xbox 360 game. While the project is still being worked on, the progress is being delayed due to the difficulty in accurately emulating the Xbox 360's GPU, Xenos.
For properly handling the Xenos GPU's capabilities, Direct3D 12 called Rasterizer-Ordered Views is required. Unfortunately, Rasterize-Ordered Views is limited only to newer cards and modern machines. Among the many advanced features, Xenia is capable of 3x3 upscaling. But this feature is very resource intensive and only some accomplished high-end GPUs can use it.
