FCEUX, short for FCE Ultra Extended, is an open-source NES and FDS emulator that started from the original FCEU NES emulator. FCEUX combined all the branches and forks of differing features and unified them to create a one-of-a-kind Famicom emulator with a very extensive toolset as compared to others.

Because this project merged together several forks, it offers a very high compatibility as a standalone emulator and has many debugging features making it popular with those who want to develop new NES games. Although it is already a merger of many forks, FCEUX itself has been forked yet again to increase the amount of platforms it can play on. The FCE Ultra GX is among such examples as it makes the emulator available for GameCube and Wii.
