Mednafen (PSX)

Mednafen is an open-source Sony PlayStation 1 emulator by Ryphecha. Formerly called Nintencer, This multi-platform emulator is focused on accuracy and compatibility and is known to outperform Sony's official PSone emulator in accuracy tests. As of version 1.31.0, Mednafen features experimental support for ST-V games that don't require decryption chips or special hardware.

Unlike most emulators nowadays, Mednafen is far from being user-friendly. First, this software has no GUI and the program itself features a shell-only interface. Fortunately, external and third-party GUI launchers are available for ease of use. Second, it requires a particular BIOS for each region - making it a bit of a hassle if you're new to it. In order to load games, you must drag and drop cue files onto the executable, and any errors will be displayed on a text file called stdout whenever a crash happens.

Mednafen, short for My Emulator Doesn't Need A Frickin' Excellent Name, is able to emulate games for the following consoles:

Mednafen uses original cores for Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo Virtual Boy, and NEC PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16). These cores are notable for their high quality, compatibility, and accuracy, and are considered one of the bests for their systems.
