Higan is among the most advanced emulators available for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)/Famicom consoles. It can also run Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance handheld consoles. Higan focuses on providing the most cycle-accurate emulation at the cost of performance with the goal of emulating the original hardware with perfect accuracy. This emulator can run every available commercial title without any bugs - except for those that are originally in the game. However, unlike many other similar emulators, Higan features a unique concept of showcasing the game's cartridges by creating individual folders for the games you play. The game folders will contain everything about the game including SRAM, cheats, configurations, and other metadata.

Previously known as bsnes, the Higan emulator is an open-source project that is still in active development with more optimization and features coming. The emulator is available on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux through Debian packages.
